Подвела казака.

«Что случилось с тобою, дружок?»

Отвечал ей казак молодой:
«Осетра я ловил под водой.
Буйна речка быстра.
Не споймал осетра.
Зачерпнул я воды сапогом»

Отвечает казачка ему:
«Не коптись, дорогой, на дыму.
Уходить не спеши.
Сапоги просуши.
Разведём мы костёр на дому»

Был казак тот ещё молодой
Да к тому же ещё холостой.
Эх, дощечка-доска
Подвела казака –
Не вернулся со службы домой

Шёл казак на побывку домой.

He was walking via a direct route through the forest.
A plank broke off.
It got the Cossack into trouble.
He took a dip in the icy water

He climbed onto the steep bank
And kindled a fire above the river.
A girl was walking by
And she approached him:
“What happened to you, friend?”

The young Cossack answered her:
“I was catching a sturgeon under the water.
The river was wild and fast.
I did not catch the sturgeon.
I scooped up water with a boot”

The Cossack girl replies to him:
“Do not get covered in soot, dear, in the smoke.
Move away, do not be in a hurry.
Dry the boots.
Let's make a fire at home”

That Cossack was still young
And still unmarried at that.
Oh, the dear plank, the plank
Got the Cossack into trouble -
He did not return home from duty
